Citizen Involvement A lake management plan is not just about the lake, it is about the watershed. What people do on the land in the watershed determines the quality of water that reaches the lake. SLPID cannot change land management policy and does not believe such a change is necessary. However, SLPID does believe that improving the implementation of existing water quality protective activities in the watershed is a realistic goal fro it to pursue. Some of these activities might include the implementation of better stormwater management designs and techniques by developers, recommending ways to reduce the amounts of impervious surfaces in various build-out designs, the use of agriultural best management practices (BMPs), the creation of streamside vegetative buffers, as well as educational initiatives as simple as reinforcing the proper use of fertilizers and pesticides by residents located within the watershed area. To be successful, a sound watershed management approach must demonstrate to the various publics utilizing it that responsible land use planning incorporating public involvement and stewardship is key. Towards this end, the Saratoga Lake /Watershed Protection Program welcomes your input and involvement! Please refer to the links at left for more specific actions by individuals, groups, and communities. |
